Czech Fest!
Czech (check) Fest will be held Saturday, March 15th beginning at 10:00am at the Czech Hall located at 94 Industrial Road, at the end of the 4-lane off Hwy 28 East Pineville. This one day festival celebrates the rich Czech heritage of the two communities of Libuse (lib-boose) and Kolin (co-leen). Delicious food available for purchase: sauerkraut and dumplings with pork, pastries such as real kolaches and twists, cookies. Outside craft booths, and other Czech related items, ethnic music played by Kovanda Band, along with Junior and Adult Czech dancers performing ethnic dances of Czech, Moravian, Slovakian origin. Snack Drive!
The Central Louisiana Homeless Coalition is in need of snacks, shelf stable food items that can be eaten without the need to cook. Tuna or Chicken pouches, Vienna Sausage, Spam, Peanut Butter, crackers, etc. Drop of donations at the Central Louisiana Homeless Coalition at 1515 Jackson Street in Alexandria. Backpack Drive!
Do you have backpacks you or your kids no longer need or use? The Food Bank of Central Louisiana is asking for donations of used or new backpacks to serve our unhoused neighbors. Backpacks can be dropped off at the Food Bank’s Client Services Center at 3200 Baldwin Avenue, behind Sam’s Club, in Alexandria.
Free Car Seat Safety Checks!
Louisiana State Police Troop E conducts a FREE child car seat safety check-up every Thursday from 10:30am to 12 Noon at Christus St. Francis Cabini’s Women’s & Children’s Hospital. Also by appointment by calling Tiuna (Tee-Ahna) McDonald at 318-448-4952. Troop E notes that 96% of car seats are installed incorrectly with at least two errors.
Resources for Seniors and Disabled Citizens!!
Cenla Aging and Disability Resource Center in Alexandria serves seniors 60+ and disable individuals age 21 and older in 20 parishes navigate Senior Health Insurance Information Program, Medicare and Medicaid. They also assist with Extra Help and Medicare Savings Program, SNAP, Food Box, Commodities, Home Delivered Meals, Congregate Meals, Eye Glasses, Hearing Aids, and more. Cold Weather Drive!
During these cold nights and days, please consider helping our local homeless community keep warm. Donations of hand and body warmers, full size clean blankets, sleeping bags, etc are being accepted at the Central Louisiana Homeless Coalition at 1515 Jackson Street in Alexandria. Child Car Seat Safety Check!
Louisiana State Police Troop E conducts Child Car Seat Safety Check Ups every Thursday from 10:30am to 12 Noon at the Women’s Hospital at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital. You can also schedule an appointment by calling Tiuana (Tee-Ah-na) McDonald at 318-448-4952. Also, every second Wednesday at Rapides Women’s & Children’s Hospital from 2 to 5pm. Appointments can also be made by calling Master Trooper Casey Wallace at 318-447-9459 or Tamera Tullos at 318-769-3456.
